The Area Planning and Services Committee on Aging with Lifelong Disabilities
Our Mission and Vision
The Area Planning and Services Committee (APSC) on Aging with Lifelong Disabilities, active since 2003, is a voluntary coalition dedicated to identifying service needs and gaps, improving collaboration between aging and lifelong disabilities service providers, offering cross-training for professionals, raising public awareness, and planning for emerging issues in aging with lifelong disabilities. We are committed to bridging the gap between disability networks and aging networks to ensure that adults with lifelong disabilities can age with dignity, independence, and access to effective support.
We envision a future where adults with lifelong disabilities are fully supported to age well, with inclusive services, cross-sector collaboration, and equitable opportunities for healthy, meaningful lives. APSC strives to be a trusted hub for innovation, advocacy, and education, fostering a community that embraces the dual lens of aging and lifelong disabilities.
What We Do
We bring together self-advocates, partners, and professionals to build a common understanding of aging with lifelong disabilities. Each year, we set clear priorities together, and host training events to improve the lives of people aging with disabilities across Virginia. Our goal is to build skills in the workforce and community, and ensure that equity and accessibility are at the heart of every system that serves older adults and people with disabilities.
Interested in Joining?
Any person or organization committed to advancing the mission of the APSC is welcome to join the coalition. For example, self-advocates, professionals and service providers, caregivers, and representatives from agencies or community groups.
We seek to create an inclusive space that values diverse perspectives and experiences, and membership is free of charge.
Members are expected to actively engage in the coalition’s work by regularly attending monthly meetings and participating in at least one workgroup. This ensures that all members are contributing to the development, implementation, and sustainability of our shared goals.
