As the Associate Director for Research, Dr. Coogle administers the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund (ARDRAF), and leads many of the research projects conducted by the VCoA. She is also Director of Evaluation in the Virginia Geriatric Education Center. An accomplished experimental psychologist, Dr. Coogle has conducted aging research and training since joining the Center in 1989. Her extensive grant-funded experience encompasses work as Co-Investigator or Principal Investigator on competitively-supported projects in a variety of content areas. Her current interests include family caregiving and burden, Alzheimer's Disease, geriatric alcoholism and gambling, and the direct care workforce crisis.

Dr. Coogle has a joint appointment as an Associate Professor of Gerontology, as well as an affiliate appointment in the Department of Psychology. She is a fellow in the Gerontological Society of America and past President of the Southern Gerontological Society. She is also a former Chair of the Governor's Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Commission and Past President of the Alzheimer's Association Greater Richmond.
